Why Use LED?
LED light bulbs, short for light-emitting diode bulbs, are one of the easiest ways to save you energy and money in your home without undergoing any lifestyle changes. You can maintain the exact same power consumption you do now and not slim down your wallet in the process.
LED bulbs last longer, are more energy efficient, and usually offer a better light quality than other bulbs on the market. This means you’ll replace your bulbs less, experience better lighting, and reduce your carbon footprint. Win-win-win!
How Do LEDs Save Energy?
A big problem with incandescent and CFL bulbs is the output of heat. In fact, incandescent bulbs release 90% of their energy as heat and CFL bulbs release 80%. That means that what you’ve paid for, the light source, is only 10% to 20% of the overall energy your home is getting.
In comparison, LED bulbs emit very little heat; this means you are actually getting more out of what you paid for. They use 75% less energy and last 25 times longer than traditional incandescent lighting. That’s efficiency you can really see.
LEDs also reduce wasted energy output because of their focused direction light output. This reduces the need for reflectors and transfusers that we commonly see with other bulbs, as they trap light and create a dimmer glow.
How Do I Calculate My Savings?
It’s easy! We at Power Advice have created a free LED savings calculator. Get a custom estimate of how much money your home or business could save by making the switch to LED; visible savings and more efficient energy usage. It can’t get much better than that.
How Do I Use The LED Savings Calculator?
Our calculator is going to ask you a couple of questions about your lighting situation and will provide a real-time estimate of how much money you will save! These questions include things like how many lights you have, how often you use artificial lighting, and the cost and wattage of your potential LED replacement bulbs. (It’s okay if you’re not sure, Google and Amazon have easy price estimates that you can use to calculate!)
If you aren’t sure how much you currently pay per kWh for electricity either, we’ve got you covered. We’ve provided a great option that will plug in the average kWh cost based on your state.
Then, it’s time to sit back and watch our calculator work its energy saving magic. It will give you an estimated dollar amount of how much your home could save every year by making the switch to LED. It’s that easy!
